Our Story

Our History

Redemption Life Development Institute (RLDI) has developed out of community work that began in 1983 in Ennerdale in the south of Johannesburg under the auspices of a church called Redemption Centre. Numerous projects such as providing meals, clothing for the needy, assisting the homeless with accommodation, youth development and creative arts were carried out during those years under the auspices of the church. This community work was formalized under the banner of RLDI in 2009. After a stint of work through the said church it was re-registered in 2020.

RLDI is based in Ennerdale about 30 km south of the CBD of Johannesburg, South Africa. It lies within the city’s municipality. The surrounding areas are Lawley, Lenasia, Lehae, Kanana, Elandsfontein, Finetown, Walkerville, Poortjie and Orange Farm districts.

RLDI was previously registered as a Section 21 Company (Registration number 2009/005164/08) with the Companies and Intellectual Properties Commission (CIPC) and is now registered as a Non Profit Company (2020/527626/08). It uses the NPO number (088-780-NPO) of its parent company Redemption Centre International for raising of funds.

Steps to Your Dream Outdoor Space

What Issue Exists

Residences of areas surrounding RLDI’s center, Ennerdale, Poortjie, Ennerdale, Orange Farm, Fine Town, Lenasia South are subject to unsafe streets, lawlessness, gangsterism, rape, substance abuse and poor education environment. The socio-economic climate is unfit for the healthy growth of a child or the living conditions people face. With minimal government intervention, many fall into social ills.

Who is affected

The vulnerable population such as babies, toddlers, adolescents, teenagers, unemployed adults, elderly and idle youth are all affected in their daily living environments. Schools are a particular breeding ground for gangsterism and substance abuse.

Why it Matters in our area (JHB South)

Our efforts matter to ensure that at-risk children are protected and exposed to safe and healthy environments. The majority of these children have minimal exposure to positive environments other than theirs, this is why we see it as important to plant a seed of hope in the hearts of each child.
